"Pavilhao de Portugal" expo 1998
The theme for the Expo 1998 was WATER.
The Portuguese chose to stress their ecological concerns
in their national pavilion and launched an appeal to
the public's awareness of modern age dangers to the
water reserves.
Mark Schueremans designed this arrangement. He was
responsible for the complete audiovisual installation
and programming of the Portuguese Pavilion.
The show started in room 1, where the audience completed
a set of multiple-choice questions about ecology, on
20 PCs. A video image of the people was grabbed and
stored in a database. These grabs would be used in the
third part of the show, where the visitors watched a
video movie about nature and pollution, which ended
with their own images.
Room 2 brought to life an archaeological expedition
under water, presented in a circular projection with
a diameter of 12 m.
